The MAGICYL Team

We’re the small team behind the MAGICYL Project – Meaning making And Generativity In Children and Young people with Life limiting and life threatening conditions. Our review highlighted missed opportunities to support children and young people (CYP) with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions (LLTC) and their families to engage in meaningful discussion about dignity, meaning making and end of life care in a structured way. Consequently, we formed the MAGICYL project team, bringing together our expertise in advocacy for CYP with LLTC, palliative care, psycho-therapy, children’s nursing and spiritual care, to consider how to apply the concept of DT and the type of intervention/s that would be appropriate for CYP with LLTC.

Lucy Watts, MBE

Co-Investigator, PPI Lead

#HelloMyNameIs Lucy, I’m a young person living with a life-limiting condition that has caused complex medical needs. I have been a palliative care patient for almost a decade. I enjoy being part of MAGICYL to bring the lived experience to the work and to champion the voices of young people, and because I truly believe in the benefits of dignity therapy.

I’m excited being part of MAGICYL because….it’s fantastic to be part of research that is truly being co-produced and will make a tangible difference to the lives of children and young people like me.

Molly

Assistance Dog / Project Mascot

I’m a 6 year old Working Cocker Spaniel trained to help Lucy Watts, MBE with a variety of physical assistance tasks and also providing a life-saving medical alert. Lucy trained me herself with help from the charity Dog Assistance in Disability (Dog A.I.D.) to become her working Assistance Dog, and I qualified in September 2016. I was Crufts Friends for Life winner 2014, Dogs Today Medal Awardee and became only the fourth dog and first Assistance Dog to be awarded the “Animal OBE”, the PDSA Order of Merit. I have a popular Facebook blog entitled Molly, Dog With A Blog.
